At Lumo, Scotland isn’t just part of our route, it’s part of who we are. From showcasing Scottish talent and supporting local businesses to promoting greener travel and expanding our network, we’re proud to be a growing part of Scotland’s success story and even more excited about what’s to come.
A True Taste of Scotland
Over the past year, we’ve continued to shine a light on the brilliant food and drink produced in Scotland. Our partnership with Holyrood Distillery has given customers a real taste of Edinburgh, with craft whisky available onboard alongside Scottish wine, beer, and Flawsome! ‘wonky’ soft drinks; all served in 100% recyclable packaging. In fact, Lumo was the first train company in Britain to go plastic bottle-free.
Later this year we’ll be once again supporting Edinburgh Cocktail Week by adding some fizz of our own with a sustainable cocktail showcase, bringing the spirit of celebration onboard and into the city.
Through our partnership with PoB Hotels, we’re also helping customers explore Scotland more sustainably encouraging lower-carbon travel with hotel options that don’t compromise on comfort, service or experience.
A Platform for the Arts
Scotland’s culture travels with us. We’ve deepened our commitment to the arts through a new partnership with the Bloody Scotland crime writing festival, where Lumo is now an official travel partner. As we prepare to connect more Scottish communities, it’s a privilege to support a festival that celebrates Scottish talent and storytelling on a global scale.
Driving a Greener Future
Lumo is proud to be a net-zero champion. Our trains are 100% electric, and we’re determined to lead by example in making rail the transport mode of choice for those who care about the planet.
We’ve renewed our partnership with Transform Scotland to further promote modal shift from car and air as we’ve seen Lumo so effectively achieve since launching.
We’re also proud to continue supporting the Edinburgh Science Festival and Co-Labs, championing future-facing ideas that inspire the next generation to think sustainably.
Importantly, we know sustainability starts from within. That’s why we recently introduced a new-look uniform for our customer-facing colleagues, created from sustainable, ethically sourced materials, making it one of the most environmentally responsible uniforms in the UK travel sector.
And with an industry-leading 96% customer satisfaction score, we’re showing that doing the right thing for the planet can also mean offering a better, more reliable experience for our customers.
Investing in Scotland
We believe in backing the nations and regions we serve. From Walkers shortbread and Edinburgh Gin to Irn Bru and Holyrood distillery, we showcase the very best of Scottish hospitality onboard every day.
We’re also making investments in our onboard experience. Every seat on our Lumo trains is being upgraded with brighter, comfier, more sustainable fabric — and we’re proud that the entire seat transformation programme is taking place at our Edinburgh depot.
Supporting Stirling and Building for the Future
Our commitment to Scotland is only growing stronger. In Spring 2026, we plan to launch new services connecting Stirling directly with London, making it easier than ever for people in central Scotland to access more sustainable intercity travel.
As part of these plans, we’ve ramped up recruitment in Scotland. In partnership with Train’d Up, we recently welcomed sixteen new apprentice drivers, with many of them training in Scotland ahead of the launch of our Stirling route. These roles are just one example of how we’re creating opportunities and building long-term skills within the communities we serve.
We’re also working closely with Transport Scotland and Network Rail to develop final route options and timings for both Stirling and proposed services to and from Glasgow, helping to deliver on Scotland’s ambitions for cleaner, greener, and better-connected transport.
The Journey Ahead
With over three million customer journeys already completed since our launch in 2021, Lumo continues to prove that sustainable rail travel can be affordable, accessible and genuinely enjoyable.
As we expand our network, deepen our partnerships and continue to invest in local communities, our message is simple:
We’re here for the people, places and planet. Scotland, we’re with you.
