Scottish Borders Celebrates Business Brilliance at 2025 Excellence Awards

Over 200 people gathered at Peebles Hydro to celebrate the region’s most innovative and inspiring businesses at the Scottish Borders Business Excellence Awards 2025. Hosted by the Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce, this year’s event showcased the impressive diversity and strength of the region’s business community from ambitious one-person start-ups to major employers like Farne Salmon and GoFibre, who have recently secured contracts worth more than £130 million

Celebrating a ‘Heavyweight’ Region

In a rousing speech, Councillor Euan Jardine, Leader of Scottish Borders Council, praised the businesses in attendance for their resilience, innovation, and community impact:

“When I talk about the Borders being a ‘heavyweight’ region, I’m talking about companies that are growing, innovating, landing major contracts, supporting communities, and exporting globally and all of those are represented here tonight.”

“From small start-ups to the likes of GoFibre, Eildon Housing and Farne Salmon, the levels of growth and ingenuity we’re seeing are extraordinary. This is what makes the Borders such a dynamic and successful place to live and work.”

Over 20 Awards – And a Region-Wide Favourite

The evening celebrated outstanding achievement across the region, with over 20 awards presented in categories including innovation, sustainability, customer service, leadership, and community impact. This year, the awards attracted more than 400 nominations, representing 231 different businesses – a true testament to the breadth and depth of talent in the Borders.

“We were truly moved by all the heartfelt nominations,” said Roz Haughey, Engagement Manager at SBCC.

The public also had their say in choosing the Borders’ Favourite Business, with more than 300 nominations submitted across four districts. Winners were:

Berwickshire: Laughing Ducks Soft Play, Coldstream

Ettrick & Lauderdale: CC Grooms

Roxburghshire: Ochiltree’s Café

Peeblesshire: The Perfect Fit

Following further deliberation by the judging panel, The Perfect Fit was crowned the overall winner.

“What stood out was owner Kerrie Guiney’s dedication to creating a warm, inclusive space particularly for families and children with additional needs and her tireless efforts to support her local high street through the Peebles Retailers Association.”

National Recognition from Business Leaders

Dr Liz Cameron CBE, Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, delivered a keynote speech and praised the strength and innovation of Borders businesses:

“It’s absolutely wonderful to see the richness and reach of businesses in the Borders. From global exports to powerful local impact, it’s all here. Events like this show the power of community, and the vital role the Scottish Borders Chamber is playing in amplifying local voices on a national stage.”

The evening brought together business leaders, employees, and supporters from across the Borders and beyond, alongside colleagues from Chambers throughout Scotland, a clear reflection of the region’s rising profile on the national business stage.
