Glasgow Science Centre has announced the appointment of two new members to its Board of Trustees, who will play a key role in leading the visitor attraction and STEM education charity into the next phase of its journey.
Long-serving Trustee Ian Laird, who joined the Board in March 2024, has also been appointed Chair following the end of outgoing Chair Dr David Sibbald’s tenure.
Kim McCann and Prof. Tom Steele will be joining the Board of Scotland’s premier science and discovery centre at a critical time for the business, and will act as ambassadors for the organisation; shaping its strategy, supporting and advising management and nurturing an ethos of inclusion and equality.
Currently holding the role of Chief Commercial Officer for Protium, with a dual background in finance and engineering, Ms McCann brings with her 30 years of experience leading across the energy, technology and management consultancy sectors.
Prof Steele is currently the Director of Strategic Infrastructure Planning and Delivery at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, who led the creation of a National Infrastructure Board within the Scottish Government Health & Social Care Directorate for long-term investment planning across primary and secondary care.
The Board of Trustees’ new Chair Ian Laird is an experienced non-exec Director and former Chief Executive with over 30 years’ experience leading across engineering manufacturing, technology, process industries, luxury goods and FMCG.
These crucial appointments have come in the same year that the Science Centre is celebrating its 25th anniversary – a significant milestone for the organisation, which currently employs over 170 staff members.

“Both Ms McCann and Prof. Steele bring with them impressive and invaluable experience that is sure to support and further the Science Centre’s strategic ambitions. I am also delighted to see Ian Laird take on the role of Chair of the Board and wish him every success in his new position.”

Prof. Tom Steele said: “Being appointed to the Board is real honour and privilege and I am very much looking forward to working with fellow board members and all staff.
“In its 25th anniversary year, this is an exciting opportunity to reflect on the Centre’s contribution to science and education and how we can collectively shape it’s future.”
