A Shared Future: Scotland and India Strengthen Business Collaboration

At the Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC), we are committed to building strong international relationships that enable Scotland’s homegrown businesses to thrive on the global stage. Strengthening global connectivity is central to our mission, and our recent visit to New Delhi marked a significant step forward in advancing Scotland’s trading relationship with India, one of the world’s largest and most dynamic markets.

During an intensive and productive week, SCC engaged with a wide range of partners and organisations who share a commitment to expanding bilateral trade and deepening meaningful businesstobusiness connections. The visit highlighted both the scale of opportunity within the Indian market and the strong appetite to collaborate more closely with Scotland.

A major milestone of the visit was the signing of a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), India’s largest and oldest apex business organisation. Representing private and public sector enterprises as well as multinational companies, FICCI draws its strength from a network of regional chambers reaching over 250,000 businesses across India. This MoU establishes a firm foundation for enhanced collaboration on trade, investment and commercial partnerships, creating new pathways for Scottish and Indian businesses to connect and grow.

Further constructive discussions took place with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). Representing more than 450,000 corporate members, ASSOCHAM’s priorities include sustainability, globalisation, startups and innovation areas which closely align with Scotland’s own economic ambitions. Conversations focused on how our respective chamber networks can work together to support companies looking to trade, invest and innovate internationally.

Engagements with the Punjabi Chamber of Commerce explored opportunities for new partnerships and strengthened links across its vibrant and entrepreneurial business community. In parallel, insightful exchanges with the UK India Business Council provided valuable perspectives on current market trends, policy developments and highgrowth sector opportunities for Scottish firms looking to enter or expand within India.

The programme concluded with a productive meeting with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), where discussions centred on shared policy priorities, longterm collaboration and the importance of fostering resilient, futurefocused economies. These conversations reinforced the breadth of opportunity available and the importance of sustained engagement.

Across all meetings, there was a clear sense of momentum and a shared desire to further strengthen the relationship between Scotland and India. With longstanding cultural, educational and economic ties, both nations are well positioned to unlock significant growth in the years ahead. SCC remains fully committed to supporting Scottish businesses as they engage with one of the world’s fastestgrowing markets.

If you are interested in being part of this momentum, we are currently gathering expressions of interest for the Scotland–India Trade Mission planned for Autumn 2026. To register your interest, please contact international@scottishchambers.org.uk.
