The Asthma and Allergy Foundation, Scotland’s only dedicated asthma charity is thrilled to announce that Vicki McGrain Rae, the charity’s esteemed Head of Services and Health Promotion, was shortlisted for the prestigious Employee of the Year award at the Scottish Charity Awards. Organised by the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), the event took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday, 20th June 2024. Vicki stood out among nearly 500 nominees, earning her well-deserved place among 39 finalists.
Vicki has been at the forefront of the charity’s Breathing Room Project, an initiative funded by a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund and aimed at supporting children and young people with asthma in Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Since its launch, Vicki has made an indelible impact, directly improving the lives of over 12,663 people including 4,107 beneficiaries in 2022 and an impressive 8,556 in 2023.
Her steadfast dedication and tireless efforts have transformed the lives of thousands, empowering them to manage their asthma and allergies more effectively. Vicki’s leadership and commitment to the mission of the charity have been nothing short of phenomenal, fostering a healthier, happier and symptom-free community.
“While I didn’t win the award, I am deeply honoured to have been recognised. Big thanks to everyone who supported and voted for me. It’s a true privilege to be part of the journey for those living with asthma and allergies,” Vicki commented. “This recognition is a testament to the incredible work of our amazing team. Together, we’re making a real difference through education, support, developing self-management tools and fostering supportive communities. What truly inspires me is our work educating the next generation, sparking their interest and empowering them to respond effectively in emergencies. Our efforts go far beyond current patients and caregivers – we’re creating a future where more people are equipped to provide life-saving support.”
