CMS in Scotland has acted on a joint instruction for the developer and funder of what is thought to be the first subsidy-free wind farm development in Scotland.

The success of this 46MW, ten turbine project near Lockerbie, which is being developed by Muirhall Energy with funding provided by Close Leasing, demonstrates that onshore wind developments can still be viable without government subsidies and is expected to start generating by September 2020.

Once operational, the site will produce enough clean renewable electricity to power over 35,000 homes each year and the local community has been offered the opportunity to buy a 10% share in the project, providing income for local community groups and contributing towards the Scottish Government’s target for community ownership of renewable energy assets.

The CMS team was led by Gordon Hay, supported by Jimmy Dundas, Laura Sefton, Kirsty Nurse, Louise Macleod, Kayleigh Purves, Keith Simpson, June Gilles.
