Glasgow Science Centre’s team has loaned its astronomy expertise to a new stargazing campaign launched by VisitScotland.

The partnership is the latest example of Glasgow Science Centre providing science content to support education and tourism in Scotland.

VisitScotland’s new online experience, Stargazing Guide to Scotland, offers stargazers, young and old, helpful hints on how to explore the night sky.

Stargazing in Scotland, a video series hosted by Glasgow Science Centre’s resident astronomer Steve Owens is part of the campaign.

The videos take viewers through six short videos in which Steve explains night sky basics, what equipment to use, top tips and where to find the constellations.

Dr Robin Hoyle, Director of Science at Glasgow Science Centre said: “Our team is an excellent resource for any organisation that needs to communicate science in an interesting, educational and accessible way.

“As one of the UK’s largest science centres we are experienced at developing classroom materials, at home experiments and large-scale exhibitions that capture exciting concepts.

“We’re keen to hear from potential partners who could use our years of insight to create their own materials or demonstrations.”

Eva Kwiecinska, VisitScotland’s Senior Content Marketing Manager, said: “Scotland has some of the best dark skies in the world and it was important that we worked with experts in this field to create top content that is easily accessible, informative but most of all entertaining, to inspire our visitors.

“Our new Stargazing Guide to Scotland was created as part of a range of content to keep Scotland at the forefront of people’s minds during the Coronavirus pandemic for when they can explore again.

“It was fantastic collaborating with Glasgow Science Centre and we are over the moon with the way the content has been performing.”

Glasgow Science Centre offers the expertise of two science directors, Dr Robin Hoyle and Dr Gillian Lang, as well as its design team, headed by Graham Rose.
