On June 22, 2023, the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) hosted its 10th World Gin Day at the Dusit Thani, Makati City.

BCCP invited Scottish Gin companies to participation at their annual celebration of all things gin, providing the chance for Scottish gin companies to be introduced to the Philippines, with the hope of entering the Philippine market.

Scotland doesn’t just produce top whisky – gins are currently sweeping the globe, thanks to the current upsurge in handcrafted gins. Over 70% of gin is made in Scotland ranging from well-known brands like Hendrick’s through to local gins like Krikjuvagr from Kirkwall. Therefore, the Scottish Chambers of Commerce were delighted to help showcase premium Scottish Gins which included, The Gael Spirits Ltd, Roehill Springs Distillery, Eight Lands, Gin Bothy and Stirling Distillery.

BCCP Executive Director/Trustee Chris Nelson shared that the event will continue the strong UK-PH trade relations by introducing new UK gins in the Philippine market.

“We are excited to host the 10th World Gin Day event on the 22nd of June at the Dusit Thani Hotel. This event brings together the best gins in the Philippines and the UK – and gives great opportunities for further interest in the gin sector,” said Nelson.

The Philippines is the largest consumer of gin. In fact, there is also an expected rise of 2% in total gin consumption per year between 2022 and 2027 in the Philippines, according to IWSR Drinks Market Analysis. With this, the British Chamber remains committed to helping UK SMEs by facilitating the expansion of participating gin companies in the Philippines, recognizing it as a significant market for gin.
