In a significant move to strengthen international business ties, a delegation from Luxembourg arrived in Scotland for a comprehensive trade mission in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Organised in collaboration between the Scottish Chambers of Commerce and Luxembourg Chamber, the mission included participation at the renowned All-Energy & Dcarbonise Conference in Glasgow, alongside site visits and strategic discussions aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment.
The All-Energy Conference & Exhibition, the UK’s largest renewable energy event, served as a focal point for the delegation’s visit where the group engaged with a number of institutional partners at the Team Scotland stand. Over two days, representatives from Luxembourg’s burgeoning renewable, fintech transport and green sectors engaged in a series of high-level discussions with their Scottish counterparts. These conversations centred around shared goals of achieving carbon neutrality and exploring cutting-edge technologies in logistics, rail, wind, solar and hydroelectric power.
Key discussions highlighted Scotland’s extensive experience and pioneering projects in offshore wind farms and tidal energy. The Scottish delegation showcased successful case studies offering valuable insights into project management, community engagement and sustainable practices and the delegation visited Solarcleano, a Luxembourg company showcasing their robotic solar panel cleaning solutions.
Beyond the conference, the mission included site visits to the Barclays Campus in Glasgow. During their guided tour, the delegates learned about its sustainable architectural design and energy-efficient features which was followed by an animated exchange at Barclays Eagle Labs with Scottish entrepreneurs and start-ups pioneering in green technologies and sustainable solutions.
The site visits also included engaging discussions with the University of Edinburgh with a presentation on the important research that is done at the Edinburgh Climate Change Institution followed by a meeting at the Centre for Business, Climate Change and Sustainability with professors pioneering in the fields such as green finance and the circulate economy.
In the afternoon, the delegation had an insightful tour of Diageo’s Leven supply production facility, focussing on the company’s sustainability practices and net zero initiatives. Diageo provided the delegation with first-hand insights into their production methods.. The various stops of the trade mission laid the groundwork for a closer partnership between Luxembourg and Scotland which concluded with a reception at Merchant’s Hall, concluding with a commitment to bringing forward the connections made.
The trade mission has not only opened doors for business opportunities but also strengthened the bonds between Scotland and Luxembourg. Both regions are poised to benefit from this renewed partnership, setting a powerful example of international cooperation in tackling global energy challenges.
