Lomond Radio, a popular online radio start-up that was created by a group of friends to offer support to their local communities during the challenges of the global pandemic, has elevated its presence by progressing into Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) in Glasgow.
Lomond Radio has been capturing the hearts of listeners since their launch in March 2020 broadcasting online via their website, mobile apps and smart speakers. Four years on, this local community radio station which was originally established to help people through lockdown has now launched on Digital DAB across Glasgow.
Run entirely by volunteers and broadcasting from their state-of-the-art studio in Strathleven House, Dumbarton, the truly local radio station has been entertaining the local area with a jam-packed schedule of diverse programming from country music to funk and soul, from love songs to rock and everything in between. The station proudly supports and promotes local bands and artists with shows such as Talent Spotlight and Fresh Sounds and provides a voice for local charities and voluntary organisations. As a non-profit organisation, the radio station can offer opportunities for local businesses to promote their products and services through very affordable advertising packages.
Launched on the 29th March 2024, Lomond Radio expanded and began broadcasting on Digital DAB across Glasgow. The decision to launch on Digital DAB marked a significant milestone in the station’s journey as one of the fastest growing community radio stations in the country.
Director and Chairman, Alan Caldwell commented “We’re excited to bring the sound of Lomond Radio to the people of Glasgow. The communities we serve in the Lomond area have a special affinity with Glasgow and its people and view Glasgow as their city too. It’s where we go for special nights out, to shop and for transport links with the rest of the country. We would love the people of Glasgow to have the same affinity with the Lomond area and everything it has to offer, and that’s one of the things we want to promote throughout our broadcasts.”
Director Paul Lucas added: “We’re eager to continue developing the station and provide a platform for local talent, support local community groups and businesses, and spread the word to a wider audience across the Glasgow area while still continuing to broadcast online, on our mobile apps and smart speakers. Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) has become a popular choice for radio enthusiasts, providing crystal-clear sound and a broader range of available stations. Lomond Radio’s move to Digital DAB signifies a commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements in the broadcasting industry.”
The Digital DAB launch on Friday 29th March 2024, was marked with a 76-hour radiothon live from their studios. Director Phil Briscoe commented “This gave us the opportunity to involve as many of our 50+ volunteers as possible, introduce them to the new audience across Glasgow and showcase what Lomond Radio can offer – a truly local radio station with local presenters for the people of Glasgow. We’re putting the LOCAL back into RADIO.”
