Statkraft builds on 130 years of innovation to drive the UK’s clean energy future

Statkraft’s multi-technology approach to renewing the way the UK is powered.

With a history in renewables that spans over 130 years, Statkraft has grown from a single hydro plant in Norway, to Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy. This is a heritage we’re immensely proud of.

Statkraft is in a unique position in the energy industry, offering the broadest range of services and technologies required to deliver a successful energy transition. In 2026 we’re marking 20 years of operations in the UK, with activities across Scotland, England and Wales spanning traditional hydropower, wind and solar development, as well as green hydrogen, grid stability services and batteries, and the project optimisation and route-to-market services essential for a thriving renewables market.

This multi-tech approach and knowledge all within one organisation allows us to bring a unique perspective to our activities. We’re able to stay open minded and consider what is suitable at a location or for a customer. This could be a combination of technologies, such as solar and battery storage, rather than a single solution or it could be the location for a stability project, essential to ensure a reliable electricity grid, when fossil fuels are finally removed from our energy mix.

Our expertise has led to Statkraft’s position as a leading renewables trader, with a view of the innovation required to optimise new technologies, to create a route to market for the energy generated and to ensure there are healthy trading mechanisms in place. Without this piece of the puzzle, developers of new technologies wouldn’t be profitable and the industry wouldn’t be able to progress.

And we’re constantly evaluating whether existing policies and funding mechanisms will support what’s to come, or hinder progress, working with governments and trade bodies to drive the industry forward.

With such a breadth of activities, our dedicated social values team partners with communities from the Shetland Isles to Cornwall to Aberystwyth. Whilst confident that renewable energy will benefit the country as a whole by strengthening energy security and ending our reliance on expensive gas imports, the benefits to local people are equally as valuable – biodiversity enhancements at each site, taxes for local authorities for local services, funds for community causes, and dedicated educational workshops for schools are just a few examples.

It’s this holistic approach that allows Statkraft to play a pivotal role in the UK’s energy transition to clean, home-grown, secure renewable energy. To discuss any of our activities, visit us at All-Energy stand L30 or find out more by visiting our website at www.statkraft.co.uk.
