THE NIGHTMARE OF RECRUITMENT

When Hiring Gets a Little Too Spooky…

By AllNeeds Recruitment Co. Ltd

There are plenty of things designed to keep us awake at night in October. Ghosts. Ghouls. Things that go bump in the night.

But for many employers, there is something considerably more frightening…

Recruitment.

You advertise a vacancy. The applications arrive. You find the one. Their CV looks fantastic, the interview goes brilliantly, everyone is excited and a start date is agreed.

Then suddenly…

Nothing.

No email. No telephone call. No response.

Your perfect candidate has disappeared into the mist.

Welcome to one of recruitment’s most infamous modern-day horrors: candidate ghosting.

The Ghost Candidate

Ghosting can happen at almost any stage of recruitment.

Candidates disappear before interviews. Some vanish after accepting an offer. Occasionally, everything appears ready to go — uniform ordered, induction planned, colleagues expecting their new team member — and on Monday morning there is simply an empty chair.

For an employer, that disappearing act is considerably less entertaining than anything you will see at Halloween.

It costs time, delays projects and can put additional pressure on an already stretched workforce.

And unfortunately, that is only the beginning of our recruitment horror story…

The CV That Comes Back From the Dead

You know the one.

A CV arrives looking absolutely perfect.

The experience matches. The qualifications are there. The dates appear right. On paper, this person could have been created specifically for your vacancy.

But once you begin asking questions, the story starts to unravel.

Job titles become slightly exaggerated. Responsibilities become a little less impressive. Dates become rather mysterious and those “expert” skills suddenly turn out to mean “I used it once about six years ago.”

A good CV can open the door, but proper candidate vetting helps establish who should actually walk through it.

Trapped in the Recruitment Web

Sometimes the nightmare is not finding applicants — it is finding the right applicant.

One vacancy can generate dozens, sometimes hundreds, of applications.

Now somebody has to review them.

Who genuinely has the experience? Who meets the essential requirements? Who lives within a realistic travelling distance? Who is actually available? Who genuinely wants this job rather than simply clicking “Apply” on everything they see?

Before you know it, hours have disappeared into the recruitment web.

Meanwhile, you still have your own job to do.

The Vacancy That Drains the Life Out of You

Then there is that vacancy.

Every business has one eventually.

You advertise it. Re-advertise it. Rewrite the advert. Change the wording. Search CV databases. Ask around. Interview. Start again.

Weeks pass.

The vacancy remains stubbornly open while the rest of the team absorbs the workload.

Suddenly one empty position is draining time, productivity and morale from the business.

A genuine recruitment vampire.

And Then Comes… The Wrong Hire

Perhaps the biggest recruitment nightmare of them all.

Because hiring someone is not simply about filling an empty chair.

A candidate can have the qualifications and experience yet still be completely wrong for the environment, team or expectations of the role.

That is why understanding team fit, personality, reliability and the culture of the business matters alongside skills and experience.

The objective should never simply be to find someone.

It should be to find the right someone.

Can Recruitment Nightmares Be Avoided?

We cannot promise a magic spell — although at this time of year we are certainly open to suggestions.

What we can offer is experience.

At AllNeeds Recruitment Co. Ltd, we have been supporting businesses with their recruitment requirements since 1999, working across a wide range of industries and supplying temporary, temp-to-permanent and permanent personnel.

Before beginning a search, we take the time to understand the vacancy, the skills required and, importantly, the type of person who will complement the existing team.

We source, screen and vet candidates, discuss their experience and availability, and work closely with both client and candidate throughout the recruitment process.

Because communication matters.

A lot.

Keeping candidates engaged, setting realistic expectations and maintaining contact throughout the process can help prevent some of those mysterious disappearances before they happen.

Let Us Deal With the Things That Go Bump in the Recruitment Night

Recruitment will probably always contain the occasional surprise.

Candidates change their minds. Circumstances change. Vacancies evolve. And yes, occasionally somebody will still disappear faster than Dracula at sunrise.

But finding staff does not have to become your next business horror story.

Whether you suddenly need temporary cover, are struggling with a particularly difficult vacancy or simply want an experienced recruitment team to take some of the pressure away AllNeeds Recruitment is here to help.

So this Halloween, if an empty desk is haunting your office…

If your inbox is full of CVs but none of them quite fit…

Or if another candidate has mysteriously vanished into the night…

Don’t be afraid to give us a call.

After all, we have been dealing with recruitment nightmares for more than 26 years.

And it takes considerably more than a ghost to scare us.
