Glasgow House, a business hub and event space in the heart of the city, will welcome Chamber members and business guests during the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, on 3-13 August.

With an estimated one million spectators expected to attend the championships, elite and amateur competitions coming from more than 120 countries and 400 national and international media, Glasgow House will give local firms and organisations an opportunity to showcase their business to local and national government ministers, business leaders and academics, as well as visiting international delegations, through a variety of engagements from business breakfast talks to evening receptions.

Glasgow House, a partnership between Glasgow Life and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, offers an opportunity for business leaders to engage with this major event at a business level, to showcase Glasgow leadership and innovation and to engage with business leadership from global brands. Sponsorship packages are available now via Glasgow Chamber.

Glasgow House will feature themed days, including Built Environment, Life Sciences, Digital, Transport, Diversity and Inclusion, and Life Sciences, covering topics such as planning for net zero, the Glasgow innovation hub, circularity, digital connectivity, eco-systems development, skills, neurodiversity and investment opportunities within the city.

The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships is expected to attract the highest attendance of all time for a cycling event and will see 2,600 athletes compete across 13 championships.

With the influx of international tourists, businesses and dignitaries over the ten days of competition, it is seen as the opportunity for Glasgow firms looking to grow internationally to expand their network and promote their firms.

Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “Glasgow hosting the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships brings together the world’s elite riders to compete at the highest level over 13 world championships. Glasgow has such a rich and innovative business community and events like the UCI championships are an excellent opportunity to show international dignitaries, business leaders and investors how the city is leading the way on issues such as green technologies, financial services, and life sciences.”

The Championships reinforce Glasgow’s reputation as a world class event city and build on the legacy of major events the city has hosted in recent years.

Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “Mega events like this are critical to our economy and over the last decade Glasgow has cemented its reputation as a world-class host for global events.

“It is estimated that the championships will add £67m to our economy and, much like during the Commonwealth Games and European Championships, businesses will play a key role in ensuring that not only the event itself is successful, but that we create a lasting legacy from it.

“Having Glasgow House established for the ten days during the Championships is excellent news for businesses looking to build this legacy and promote their business to the world.

“We know business leaders from across the world will be in our city and having co-ordinated events like this provides a unique opportunity to highlight the great work our businesses are doing in tackling global issues.”

Glasgow House will be based at The Merchants House of Glasgow in George Square, and host events throughout the UCI Cycling World Championships.
