As the Managing Director of social enterprise Dechomai, Ltd Bayile embarked on her journey at the University of Strathclyde in the hope that the ‘Help to Grow’ programme would introduce her to new perspectives on doing business.

Word of Strathclyde’s impressive reputation had reached Bayile through existing contacts and she was keen to capitalise on the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals. Bayile’s organisation helps entrepreneurs from an ethnic minority background to access business support and guidance, and Bayile says that her participation in the Help to Grow programme was key to helping her sustain and grow her organisation.

She adds that she was impressed by the diversity of businesses represented in the room during her course at Strathclyde Business School, and deeply valued the reserves of knowledge amongst her peers.

“It was really important to me to have that community of other business leaders around me”, she says. “I was able to widen my network of contacts, both in terms of geography and business background, and the mutual support was an invaluable part of the experience”.

Bayile also praises the ease with which the course was facilitated, and praises the use of case studies as examples of how other entrepreneurs had forged their own paths, giving her inspiration and opportunities to emulate others’ success.

Thanks to the Help to Grow programme Bayile was also able to continue a positive cycle of education and opportunity, bringing on interns to work within her company and benefitting from a refreshed perspective towards doing business.
