Creating products that stand out amidst the lush greens of Gleneagles is no small feat, yet Mairead Hume’s Harris Tweed Golf Collection accomplishes this with remarkable elegance. Her collection rivals the beauty of the surroundings for which it’s designed.

As we stood on the green, she knows so well, Mairead’s passion for the sport became clear. It’s this love for golf, this ‘rush’ she feels with each swing, that inspires her to craft the exquisite accessories in her Harris Tweed Golf Collection. To her, golf is more than just a game—it’s an adrenaline rush. A combination or chance and years of skill.

This passion for golf harmonises with Mairead’s talent for crafting accessories.

Her Harris Tweed Golf Collection is a luxury brand that designs and manufactures high-quality golf accessories in Scotland. The collection includes head covers, putter covers, tee bags, valuables pouches, flat caps, and more, supplying some of the most famous golf courses in the UK and also offering bespoke services. It is a manifestation of her love for her country alongside a love for her sport.

But, prior to her epiphany that Scotland wasn’t all so bad, Mairead spent 20 years travelling, getting away from “dreary” Scotland, experiencing independence, taking in the varied cultures and all kinds of people- people, who all had a love for Scotland. Something that Mairead was unfamiliar with.

After many years working and living around the world, she returned home to Scotland with a new appreciation for her country and “realised what an amazing country” she came from.

Upon her return to Scotland, she began working in the golf industry, a decision that would lead her to the creation of her first ever product – a golf shoe bag made of Harris Tweed! “That first item is still in our collection. I am actually still using the very first shoe bag that I made 10 years ago! The quality of the products is very good and they are very long lasting. Harris Tweed will last you a lifetime if you look after it.”

Somewhere in between this first design and now, Mairead transformed her part time hobby into a full time business, tracing her passion for designing the products back to her great-grandmother, a talented seamstress in a small Irish valley. This family legacy continues in Mairead’s commitment to using local Scottish weavers and tailors to create her products in Stirling, her hometown.

One of Mairead’s biggest milestones was partnering with The Old Course at St. Andrews. After discovering her products through social media, the retail team asked her to create a bespoke tweed that is now sold exclusively at the iconic course. She recalls the day fondly. “I had no idea how it was going to go! We went along with a huge suitcase of samples and sat down with the head of retail at the old course and he said to us – “This is the best product I’ve seen in the last 10 years!”

Looking ahead, Mairead emphasises the importance of preserving the Harris Tweed craft and encouraging the next generation to carry on the tradition. And if that doesn’t work out, she jokes she will have to “move to Harris and become a weaver myself!”
