The past twenty years has been an era of significant change for the global energy market. Green power targets have called for a shake-up within the industry – and the ability to adapt and diversify has been central to Smith Brothers Contracting’s success.

Headquartered in West Yorkshire and with offices in Sheffield and Dublin, Smith Brothers works across some the UK’s leading renewable energy projects – and high-voltage connections – and has become one of the country’s top Independent Connections Providers (ICPs).

Investing strongly in resources has enabled Smith Brothers to be a market leader in the delivery of extra high voltage (EHV) turnkey projects, which now play a significant role in growing the business. The award-winning brand now has all eyes on the future, and its reputation within the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) arena is a driving force behind its success.

Operating in varied sectors including commercial and industrial, renewables and water treatment, the Smith Brothers roster includes major nationwide utilities providers, local SMEs, construction partners, and blue-chip brands, to name just a few.

One current project includes a 50MW battery energy storage project in Fife, Scotland – with design work underway, and energisation slated for October 2022. Smith Brothers is responsible for the project’s embedded generation which, when complete, will connect the power source to the SPEN (Scottish Power Energy Networks) distribution network.

Under the scope of works, Smith Brothers will be responsible for contestable deliverables, including the laying of an 800m grid connection cable route, as well as construction of the site’s 33kV substation building.
