The Scottish Chambers of Commerce has hosted its first inward trade mission between Scotland and Pakistan bringing together leading businesses from both nations following the historic signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry in September 2022.

Pakistan is the world’s 5th most populous country and was the UK’s 52nd largest trading partner as at the end of Q4 2022 accounting for 0.3% of total UK trade. The Scottish Chambers of Commerce was delighted to host an inward delegation from Pakistan with a series of B2B meetings attended by over 30 top leading businesses from both nations. The top sectors of interest were tourism, agri-tech, energy, technology, textiles, skills & training. In an economy that is closer than ever before, trade, jobs and wealth will continue to drive and foster deeper connectivity between our respective business communities and countries.

Our Chief Executive, Dr Liz Cameron CBE commented: “Our nations have already demonstrated a shared commitment to progress, to innovate, and collaborate by the signing of our agreement. Our relationship goes beyond diplomatic formality; they encompass a tapestry of cultural exchanges, educational collaborations and thriving business opportunities and that’s why the Scottish Government has a specific engagement strategy for Pakistan focussed on collaborative activity to help us meet our purpose of sustainable economic growth.”

The day marked the first successful round of B2B meetings between Scotland and Pakistan. The Scottish Chambers of Commerce facilitated B2B meetings help to fast track the bilateral business relationships between Scotland and Pakistan and to build more fruitful and profitable relationships. Both sides resolved to increase engagement and business to business connections supported by both governments.

It was also a pleasure to be joined by Christina McKelvie, Minister for Culture, Europe and International Development in the Scottish Government to showcase the joint partnership between Scottish Chambers of Commerce and The Scottish Government to promote trade and exports across the world. It was highlighted that through collaborative activity between Pakistan and Scotland, economic growth can be achieved. The Scottish Government, in collaboration with the Scottish Chambers International Network, provides export support to deliver a range of inward and outward trade missions as part of the International Trade Partnership.
